What is the prospect’s strategy and ambitions?
Strategy
• The business retains its focus as a specialist lighting distributor.
• They have added a new supplier from China offering state of art luminaries of the highest quality in terms of manufacture, aiming not to be barred from budget sensitive projects where they cannot compete on the volume parts with the typical fittings they are known for.
• Atrium has been built around agility and adaptability.
• Financial forecasting: The pound sterling has already lost more than 18% of its value over the past couple of years against the currencies in which they purchase over 90% of their products. To compensate for this adverse state of affairs they shall have to continue applying all the means at our disposal to raise the level of their gross margin, a function best helped by the quality of the overall service they can offer and become more stringent with credit control.
• They monitor on a daily basis currency exchange fluctuations and indications of changes in relevant trends and forward buy when deemed appropriate.
• Competition: On the one hand fewer and fewer independent organisations have remained, whilst independents having been taken over by their major foreign suppliers, on the other hand, major players having shed staff especially over the las couple of years, a number of new “low-cost” entrants have appeared on the competition scene, having been formed by the distributors they used to be employed by. Due to the marketplace increased competition the company invests in its independence and the selection of high scale products and its long serving knowledgeable team dedicated to quality.
