Absolutely appalling – the worst umbrella company ever!-Nov.2020 (1/5)
Absolutely appalling! In ten years of contracting I have never had the misfortune to use such a shoddy service!

Their online hub is so outdated, and clearly cost about 50p to build, that it does little more than confuse and delay efficiency. It states information is available, like your payslip, when it isn’t. You’ll waste hours looking for it. The UI is useless and should have been consigned to the digital scrapheap decades ago.

More importantly, it seems they are reluctant to pay out at all and will come up with any excuse whatsoever to delay and avoid paying you.

My miserable experience with them was:

Month 1: timesheets in on the 5th October, eventually 11 days later on the due payment date (yes, it takes them that long to process a timesheet) I received the grand sum of zero. Eventually, I discovered, after several hours of phone calls and emails, that because they had spelled my surname incorrectly, and I hadn’t, they rejected the timesheet, but didn’t tell anyone. Thus, no payment. I eventually received it three days later, and 16 days after the timesheet had been submitted.

They were given a royal rollicking by me and the agent/recruiter and promised to do better next time.

Month 2: on the day payment was due, again 11 days after submitting a timesheet, I received an email asking me for my bank account details – not at all a practice, eh.

Evidently my bank had rejected payment because the account details Brookson provided were incorrect. They inferred I had provided incorrect data, but if the bank account details were correct last month, then why aren’t they this month?

They clearly don’t do spelling and they don’t do numbers either – not a great remit for a financial company!

I phoned them hours ago, about this, and still no reply, no explanation and NO MONEY either…

Frankly, it seems as though they just like hanging on to your money for as long as possible, and are reluctant to hand it over until they have been bellowed at and threatened repeatedly.

As a contractor, it’s my job to do the work and their’s to sort out my money, yet I am constantly disturbed by having to deal with their shabby process.

Month 3: You must be joking! Never, ever again.

AND ALL THIS IN THE MIDDLE OF A GLOBAL PANDEMIC WHEN WORK AND MONEY IS SCARCE AND DIFFICULT TO COME BY – SHAMEFUL!

“A shambles
I can honestly say that this is the worst place I’ve worked. Toxic culture, absolute snakes in each department and the perception that this is a great company to work for is a huge con.

The office was also a dump. People slagged each other off. Employees who’d been there for years were extremely defensive and unwilling to change. And the behaviour of some senior staff was quite frankly alarming.

Brookson were going through a huge change at the time of my employment with numerous restructures and redundancies. Most back office departments are hugely understaffed and very incompetent leading to bad service and complaints constantly. Business Development is run by someone who knows the industry but cannot manage people or organise anything. Furthermore training and development is non-existent. I also think financially the business is facing huge challenges due to IR35.”
