What is the prospect’s strategy and ambitions?

Strategy

• The principal activity of the company is trading as a motor dealer
• The company, in order to benefit their customer’s experience to buy a vehicle, continues to invest in state-of-the-art systems along with new modern dealerships and training and development for their employees including recruiting an industry-leading Group Training Manager from a Plc background.
• The company continues to grow with its portfolio of brands in the South West giving unrivalled choice to its customers. The current franchise portfolio includes Ford, Mazda, Fiat, Abarth, Alfa Romeo, Jeep, Peugeot, Renault, Dacia, Nissan and Seat which puts the company in a strong position to benefit from new technologies and alternative fuel opportunity.
• The company is well placed for new opportunities that arise in their changing industry and has been chosen to represent for Ford with two FordStores. This is a new initiative of around only 70 in the UK and will exclusively sell RS, Mustang, and Vignale product from these sites. The Plymouth store has been incorporated into their current facility at Marsh Mills and a new site has been acquired at Matford Green in Exeter.
• They plan to consolidate their current Exeter dealerships at Honiton Road and Marsh Barton into a new state of the art, multi-franchise development. This will offer greater choice in one location to their customers and allow for a larger used car display to complete with the used car supermarkets. The economies of scale that result will save costs as they grow and being on one site will allow them to improve services to their customers.
• The company is responding to manufacturers’ requirements for larger but fewer dealerships which resulted in a number of disposals during the year.• Last year the business invested in a new company website from G- Forces that are now able to transact online vehicle sales including finance as it is a growing requirement from their customers.
• During the last year the company has made a major change in the way they do business by combining the New and Used Sales Director role into one Sales Director and also combining the Service and Parts Director role into one Aftersales Director.

Principal risks and uncertainties

1. Principal business risks facing the company are the loss of a key manufacturer and the general economic climate. The company, however, is supported by the fact it has good long-term relationships with its manufacturer partners and it’s regularly approached with new opportunities as a result of its proven high level of customer service and loyal customer base.

2. Vospers run a multi-franchise/multi-site motor dealership operation and the complexity of the existing reporting put a real strain on Excel (on which we maintained our internal management accounts). The spreadsheets were of such a size that they became unstable, impracticable to use by the managers/directors, and very cumbersome to change.

They were searching for a solution to deliver their Management Reporting that was:
• Flexible
• Responsive
• Easy to maintain and change

Ambitions

Vospers is a family business aiming to be leaders and innovators of the retail motor industry, achieving excellent customer satisfaction by developing their people and establishing lasting relationships with their customers, suppliers and the local community.

Who are the prospect's customers?

  • Individuals who are interested in buying / renting new or used vehicles from a large range of brands
  • local and national businesses to source and provide cost effective solutions for company cars and fleets (car or van) of all sizes

Customer Reviews on Trustpilot

Frustrating after sales service

“We have now purchased 7 vehicles from Vospers mainly in Truro & have been dealing with the company for over 13 years. We recently purchased a Mercedes-Benz A Class. Absolutely superb car, these Mercs really are exceptional, so no probs with the vehicle, we are more than happy with it. Salesman Jason at St.Austell was extremely helpful & friendly, we received a decent trade-in offer on our 67 plate Nissan Micra, which to be fair was in superb condition with low mileage & was maintained impeccably. So the deal went through very smoothly.
However, there has been a slight mix up with the V5 document, which appears to have been sent to the wrong address, meaning the Mercedes is probably registered to our neighbours!! Not ideal. This has been chased up by myself via emails & telephone calls to Jason at St.Austell, but with very slow progress, considering it’s a very important document. So my only concern regarding Vospers is the after sales isn’t brilliant, which is a shame.
So 9 weeks after the vehicle purchase we still await the V5 document.
We are trusting this will arrive very soon? Sending emails & making telephone calls all the time isn’t ideal really. We will probably use Vospers again, but it’s little things like this that might make us look elsewhere.”

Superb service from Vospers Commercial

“Superb service from Vospers Commercial Plymouth.
I got my dates mixed up and arrived a day early! No problem was the response from the service team, and they said I could leave it with them. To my surprise i received a call later the same day to say my vehicle was ready to collect!
Great staff and customer service.”

Employee Reviews on Indeed

Good working environment but often disjointed and disorganised.
Technician (Current Employee) – Exeter – 20 February 2020

“Although I found the other staff and indeed the managers generally likeable, I felt there was a culture of broken promises. I personally found the drive to earn bonus stressful and without being given the work, difficult to achieve. The reality is it’s a big company and that feels like it has lead to a ‘commodity’ take on the staff with the onus on productivity rather than an understanding of the human element.”

No support for mental health
Apprentice (Former Employee) – Exeter – 15 October 2019

“Cover each others backs, no support when of ill, no support in the work place to get targets hit for apprentices,
Just a number not respected as a person,
Work dinner hours no recognition for what you do”

Valeter/Driver (Former Employee) – Truro, Cornwall – 13 December 2018
there’s no care for the staff, as long and the managers can have an easy day, then all is good, there is rubbish shelter for the valeters, the majority of the staff are moody.
Pros
almost everything
Cons
Driving new cars

Motor trade service dept (Former Employee) – Plymouth, Devon – 9 January 2018
Motor trade is more and more demanding. Manufacturer and customer expectations along with company demands and expectations make it very difficult to enjoy. Under constant pressure in position held.
Pros
The people. Staff and customers.
Cons
Workload, expectations.

Employee Reviews on Glassdoor

Current Employee – Sales Controller in Plymouth, England (UK)
“I have been working at Vospers full-time (More than 5 years)”
Pros
Great teams across the business. Great levels of pay. Room for career progression, amazing new training program that will give you the tools to make yourself a lot of money and ensure that Vospers creates customers for life.
Cons
Some of the buildings aren’t as ‘posh’ and new as other garages, but something the company is investing in.

Dec 17, 2018

Current Employee – Sales Consultant in Saint Austell, England
“I have been working at Vospers full-time for more than 9 years “
Pros
Friendly Family Owned Company with good core values Lots of Company investment and site developments taking place New In house Training taking place Good Earnings potential
Cons
Company benefits scheme could be better for long serving employees but being worked on and internal promotion opportunities .

Oct 5, 2018
Pros
Some of the people that work there are the nicest people you will ever meet and work to the bone for this undeserving company.
Cons
The company is stuck in the 1980s and management and directors do nothing to try and change it. There’s a culture of sexism and racism that seems to be accepted as “friendly banter”. Terrible members of staff remain in their jobs despite numerous complaints about them. Near enough every department is understaffed and underpaid and very little is done to address issues. There’s no culture at all as far as working from home or flexible hours etc. There’s just no thanks at all. “We pay your wages, why would we do anything else to value you”. Avoid this company, especially if you are a woman.
